what makes its so damn good?

Ever wondered why those energy drinks have become so popular so fast and why more and more are being demonized?

100 meter sprint, marathon or studying for an exam?

Of course, that doesn’t have to be a problem if covering a quarter mile was the only objective.
But in most cases resembling normal live, it would be nice if you could drive yourself home after a race.

Performances really can be improved by the right type of fuel and a activated nervous system.
The right type of fuel and ‘software setting’ , however, depend on the type of race.

The usual sugars in de energy drinks cause a rapid increase of blood glucose levels, follow by an equally fast reduction of these levels. In some cases these can even drop to levels lower than before drinking.

To handle these high blood glucose levels your body works overtime to let your muscles and fat cells take up excessive glucose. This proces can still be active some while after glucose levels have already dropped back to normal. This explains why within two hours you can feel even less energetic than before.

An energy drink therefor should only be consumed shortly before you’re expected to physically perform at high intensity for a brief period.

In our experience, however, this is not the way in which most people consume energy drinks. We see students trying to survive that last math class or an evening cramming for an exam. Or office staff trying to finish that important presentation.

The rising numbers of overweight and obese people show an obvious point: there are more people getting in to much energy daily than people getting too little. At lease in most modern societies.

DAMN GOOD for energy

That’s why DAMN GOOD NUTRITION  tries to fulfill the need for energy in a different way.
DAMN GOOD NUTRITION doesn’t believe in energy sources for short bursts of high energy when
most people need a source of moderate energy that’s delivered more gradual.

Protein

The proteins in DAMN GOOD NUTRITION provide a more gradual release of energy.
No fast upper followed by an equally fast downer.

Another quality of protein is the effect on satiety. Protein provides higher saturation leaving you feeling less hungry then after drinking a soft- or energy drink with sugars.

Vitamine B

DAMN GOOD NUTRITION also helps getting more energy from other foods eaten.
The different vitamines B make for an efficient conversion from food to energy.

Research has shown that for athletes deficiencies in B vitamines can reduce performance.
Especially when on a diet low in calories.

Vitamine D

Vitamine D deficiencies occur frequent in The Netherlands. In particular in winter months by lack of sunlight. People with a D vitamine deficiency experience more fatigue. A number of studies have confirmed this, and concluded that D vitamine supplements can remedy this fatigue.

Vitamine D has also been associated with a higher sensitivity for insuline. This makes for improved regulation of available blood glucose.

Energy drinks partly are popular for the same reason as (regular) soft drinks: the combination of sugar and carbonation.Apart from the taste, they are being promoted as suppliers of huge boosts of energy. They’re supposed to achieve this by providing fuel and switching your brains and nervous system to active.

The fuel is delivered in the form of fast acting sugars while caffeine and taurine are added to kickstart the nervous system. Like chip tuning your car and adding nitro.

Too bad though those cars mostly break down after every drag race. Kind of like your body half an hour to an hour after drinking an energy drink.
